Naturalistic observation is the observation of a subject in their natural habitat.

Usually used by psychologists, behavioral scientists, & social scientists.

While using this method of observation, the observers try to avoid disturbing the subjects or the habitat in which they are studying. They study things occuring natuarally, w/ out intervention. (Manoli, 2007) The studies can be overt, which is when a subject is aware it is being studied, Or the studies can be covert, which in this case, the subjects are unaware they are being observed.
